Born today in 1940, songwriter, singer and guitarist Sonny Rhodes (Clarence Smith aka Clarence Mauldin).

Born today in 1946, Nick Simper original bassist with Deep Purple, he played on their first three albums before being sacked along with vocalist Rod Evans in 1969.

Today in 1973, David Bowie went to number 1 on the UK album chart with “Pinups”.

Today in 1979, Eagles went to number 1 on the US album charts with “The Long Run”.

Today in 1992, Bon Jovi released their fifth studio album “Keep The Faith”.

Today in 2002, Santana went to number 1 on the US album chart with “Shaman”.

Died today in 2010, James Clench singer and bassist with Bachman-Turner Overdrive, aged 71.
