No. That is not an editorial slip up, much as I wish it were. Womxn is the new woke. Really.

On Thursday I was listening to Heather du Plessis-Allen talking about the new word for women that is taking the world by storm. The new word is WOMXN.

First of all, how the hell do you even pronounce that? Then again, as I never intend to use the word, I don’t need to know.

Yes, you guessed it. Because so many …er… ladies find the word ‘man’ offensive (you really couldn’t make this up, and I promise you, I am not), a word to describe women that does not make any reference to ‘man’ has been invented. And it is womxn.

I keep repeating it because it is so stupid, I need to remind myself this is not fiction… like Snow White and the Seven Vertically Challenged People. Or something.

Does it seem to you that every day is April 1st these days? It certainly seems that way to me.

The Daily Mail reports: (see – I’m really not making it up.) quote.

University students?are refusing to use the words ‘woman’ and ‘women’ because they have been deemed ‘offensive’ and include the word ‘man’.

Instead, members of the female sex are being referred to as?’womxn’ by students at both?Goldsmiths, University of?London?and Kings College London.

At Goldsmiths, the Students Union has ceased to use the words women and woman in its publications, since ‘womxn’?has been deemed more ‘inclusive’ of all students, including those who identify as transgender.

Elsewhere in the city, societies including the ‘KCL Womxn in Physics’ club at King’s College are also using the word. end quote.

Is this really what suffragettes tied themselves to railings, ran in front of racehorses and went on hunger strike for? quote.

The word ‘womxn’ on Urban Dictionary is described as: ‘A spelling of “women” that is a more?progressive term that not only sheds light on the prejudice, discrimination, and institutional barriers womxn have faced, but to also show that womxn are not the extension of men (as hinted by the classic Bible story of ) but their own free and separate entities. More intersectional than because it includes trans-women and women of color.’? [sic]d quote.

Hang on. Since when exactly were women of colour not women? This is news to me.

Here. Take a look at this (just to prove that I am not making this up).

Rejection of the word ‘woman’ dates back to the Seventies when the word ‘womyn’ was adopted by feminists to delete the word ‘man’ .

It was believed the original noun made females seem?inherently reliant on man.

However, ‘womyn’ was controversial because it was seen as being associated with white, cisgender (a person whose gender identity matches their sex at birth) feminism. end quote.

So there is a problem with people who identify with the gender they were born with? I never knew that. I always thought 99.99% of people were happy with their gender. How could I possibly be so stupid?

Why exactly do we have to delete the word ‘man’? Don’t both men and women belong to ‘MANkind’? Aren’t we all ‘huMAN?

It seems that it is not all plain sailing in the womxn world, however, as these things never are. quote.

The word ‘womxn’ caused controversy earlier this year when a feminist organisation sponsored by fashion brand H&M used the word 15 times in an email.

Some black and trans women said they were furious people decided they needed a new word to include them – because they are women. end quote.

Thank you, women, of colour. Of course you are women. Why would anyone think otherwise? As for transgender people, well… aren’t they allowed to identify as whatever they like anyway? So what is the problem? quote.

The word ‘womxn’ has caused widespread debate over whether not it is inclusive of divisive.

A spokeswoman for the Goldmsmiths Student Union said:??’Womxn is used to demonstrate our commitment to inclusiveness. No student has complained about its use.’ end quote.

How exactly is the word womxn inclusive?

It excludes all women who are happy being women and who are also happy with men being men. That means it excludes something like 99% of the world’s population of women.

I often get a bit snarly with people who go on about ‘first world problems’, but really… if this is all we have to worry about in 2018, then one of those many beauty queens who could barely string a sentence together but wished, when asked, for world peace, must have got their wish. Child poverty is ended. There are no conflicts around the world. All those refugees went home. The climate is benign (even Stuff says so) and #metoo has gone bankrupt because there is no sexual assault. Not even a man touching a woman’s arm… anywhere.

But none of this has happened. In the meantime, boys will be boys, and women will be womxn. Because, apparently, they can.
