Another Dodgy Deal with the Dodgy Socialist Dam?

The Dodgy Socialist Dam in Central Hawkes Bay got another kick in the arse recently, with the promoters having to pay the costs of appellants in the high court case that highlighted how dodgy the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is.

Word from inside the council staff is that the dam promoters are really struggling to sign up water users, so have come up with some creative clauses in the contracts.

So far the sign ups have been slow.

Contracts signed so far to take water from Hawke’s Bay’s Ruataniwha dam and irrigation project added up to only about 13 percent of the commitment needed to make the scheme commercially feasible.

When will the Dodgy Socialist Dam Fall Over?

Regular readers will know that I loathe socialism, and especially loathe corporate welfare.

I also loathe local government giving anyone the right to turn our waterways toxic. So it is a good day when we hear that an extremely dodgy corporate welfare project is looking likely to fail.

The halfwits at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council have been promoting a massive irrigation scheme in Central Hawkes Bay, despite being repeatedly warned that it was not environmentally sound and was not economically viable.

These points now seem to be coming home to roost.

Backers of the Hawke’s Bay irrigation scheme have until March 31 to show they have the necessary consents, investment and demand before construction begins.

But Friday’s High Court decision, in favour of Fish & Game and other appellants, has complicated matters because it has sent a crucial part of the resource consent back to a board of inquiry for consideration.

The board needs to reconvene and take submissions from both sides. No date is set for this to occur, and it is uncertain how long it would take or what process it would follow. If the investment company behind the scheme is forced to extend the financial closing date beyond the end of March, it would face additional costs of about $250,000 a month.

Stop pouring poo in our rivers

riverofshit

The extremely dodgy Hawkes Bay Regional Council have taken their eye off the ball and have let the Central Hawkes Bay District Council waste ten years and not build a sewerage system that pours poo into our rivers.

Sources in Hawkes Bay say that there was a private Environment Court case bought against the CHBDC in 2004, which gave Central Hawkes Bay 10 years to stop pouring poo into the rivers.

Central Hawkes Bay did almost nothing and then panicked near the end of the consent and built a half arsed solution that does not work.

HBRC group manager resource management Iain Maxwell said his council did not play any part in the final selection of the wastewater treatment option or its design, and its role was now to ensure CHBDC met the required standards.   Read more »

New Zealand’s Silliest Local Government Spending, Ctd

The dodgy socialist ratbags in Hawkes Bay want to use ratepayer and tax payer money to build their dodgy socialist dam.

This is getting out of hand, with two deals that don’t really pass the smell test coming through the tip line.

The first deal is the Central Hawkes Bay District Council lead by Mayor Peter Butler is deciding to spend an awful lot of money to replace the town water supplies in Otane, Waipawa, Waipukarau and Takapau from the dodgy socialist dam.

CHB Urban Water Supply From Ruataniwha Scheme

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council today decided that it would source its urban water supply from the Ruataniwha Water Storage Scheme once it is in operation.

The resolution from Central Hawke’s Bay District Council today is “Council agree to take water from the RWSS for Municipal Supply subject to favourable contract terms.”

Currently the District Council takes water directly from the Tukituki River to supply households and commercial enterprises in Waipukurau, Waipawa, Takapau and Otane.    Read more »

Labour’s home-wrecker candidate can pull blokes but not voters

Anna-Lorck-Labour-candidate-in-Tukituki-NZ-HERALD

Labour’s home-wrecker candidate in Tukituki, Anna Lorck, can pull blokes but it seems she can’t pull voters.

PDM at No Minister reports in:

On Saturday afternoon (late) the Labour Candidate for Tukituki, Anna Lorck, held a street corner meeting on the corner of our street.

No one turned up so she resorted to door knocking and our neighbour sent her over to us saying that we were from Central Hawkes Bay – her home patch as well as ours. I quickly gave her the message that neither Labour or any other party on the left would be getting our votes.   Read more »

Another potential investor pulls out of the Dodgy Socialist Dam

Regular readers will know I loathe socialism and socialists with a passion.

The worst example of socialism being promoted at the moment is the Ruataniwha Water Storage Project in Hawkes Bay, where the socialists at the Regional Council want to spend about $275m of taxpayers money to give water to 150 farmers, at the same time as turning the Tukituki River toxic.

This project has always looked like a big socialist scam, and it seems that even if 500 people in Central Hawkes Bay parade around supporting bludging off the rest of us, their council doesn’t want to invest their money in the dam.

Central Hawke’s Bay district councillors yesterday voted not to proceed with a proposal to invest $5 million in the Ruataniwha Water Storage Scheme, in what some submitters against the idea called a “victory for common sense”.

The council met to consider and discuss the 92 submissions that had been received, of which 75 were opposed to the proposal to take $1 million from rural ward reserve funds and borrow $4 million to invest in the project.   Read more »

Not all Central Hawkes Bay people are bludging Socialists

The dodgy socialist dam doesn’t stack up economically so Trustpower and Ngai Tahu pulled out of investing in it.

So the local council decided they would put $5m on the never never to help the extremely dodgy Hawkes Bay Regional Council fund the dam.

The problem for the CHB council is they had to go through a submissions process and the submitters are obviously not a bunch of bludging socialists.

Central Hawke’s Bay Mayor Peter Butler says he is surprised at the strength of opposition to his council’s plans to invest $5 million in the Ruataniwha water storage scheme.    Read more »

Socialist Ratbags running for National in Wairarapa & Tukituki

Certain National candidates disgust me. People who believe in corporate welfare or subsidies are the top of the list, as they are basically socialists dressed in blue.

Extremely Dodgy Council Vote for Dodgy Socialist Dam

Fenton "Jong-un" Wilson

Fenton “Jong-un” Wilson

As regular readers know the extremely dodgy Hawkes Bay Regional Council is promoting a dodgy socialist dam in Central Hawkes Bay.

The socialists on the council want to pour $275m of public money into a dam that will allow 150 farmers to make more money.

To do this the dodgy council tried to turn the Tukituki River toxic by creating a model, the extremely dodgy TRIM model. The TRIM model was concealed from other submitters, who were forced to go to court to get access to it. The Board of Inquiry found that the TRIM model was not fit for purpose, and that the council couldn’t turn the Tukituki toxic by not managing for Nitrogen.  Read more »
