Never Give Up Hope

Ten years ago, on Jan. 12, 2007, Shawn Hornbeck and Ben Ownby were found. Ben had been missing for a few days, but Shawn had been missing for more than four years. The discovery that the boys were alive and kept captive by Michael Devlin in Kirkwood made national news.

Shawn was kidnapped while riding his bike to a friend’s house near Richwoods, Missouri. Shawn had taken this path many times before but this time, Shawn passed by Mike Devlin who bumped him with his truck. Devlin initially seemed concerned for Shawn’s safety, but moments later put him into the back of his truck and told him “You were just at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Shawn Hornbeck had several chances to escape while he was held by a kidnapper for four years. He went out riding his bike at age 11 in 2002 and never came back. Shawn had multiple chances to make contact with the authorities, but he did not. He even had access to the Internet. He was discovered by police in the home of his captor and returned to his family at age 15. His case has been the source of much speculation, and many believe he suffers from Stockholm Syndrome.

And he would have been registered too

Another week another sicko teacher in court on charges.

So much for Chris Hipkins’ claims that only mandatory teacher registration can protect children.

A former school principal on trial for child exploitation charges has admitted sending images of semi-dressed boys through the ‘dark web’ to a man in the US, but says it was for legitimate work on the school website.

Bruce Darroch, who faces six charges relating to online child exploitation, appeared for trial in the Rotorua District Court on Monday.

Darroch, a former head of Te Waotu School in South Waikato, faces two charges of supplying objectionable material, one charge of making an objectionable publication, one charge of possession of objectionable material and two charges of failing to assist police to execute a search warrant.

He had entered not guilty pleas to all charges and the defence opted for a judge only trial, an option available due to the nature of the charges.

Crown lawyer Amanda Gordon said the failure to assist police charges, stem from Darroch’s refusal to provide passwords to an encrypted laptop and hard drive found at his home after a police search on August 26, 2014.   Read more »

Why won’t media report John Howland’s other convictions

The Media party is locking in behind John Howland, the man who threw muck all over Gerry Brownlee. They are portraying him as a sad grieving father who lost a son in the earthquake.

That’s sad, but I fail to see how Gerry Brownlee is responsible for an earthquake…he’s not that big.

The man who allegedly tipped a chocolate and flour mixture over Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee lost his son in the February 2011 earthquake.

John Howland arrived at the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday on what would have been the 20th birthday of his son, Jayden Andrews-Howland.

He said he attacked Brownlee “to prove a point”.

The Government sucks.”

Howland, 41, was arrested and charged with assault after allegedly pouring the mixture of chocolate, egg, flour, salt, pepper and vinegar over Brownlee shortly after the earthquake memorial service in Hagley Park finished on Monday afternoon.

“The Government, they’re heartless.” Howland said.

What do we do with people like these?

It is pretty clear that people like this can’t be ‘cured’.

In this article the headline is that he admits downloading 6000 images. In the article, it states he made recordings of kids. You have to questions the sub-editor and editor for white-washing that and burying the serious bits of the story.

A man has admitted downloading more than 6000 images of child sexual exploitation and abuse onto his laptop and cellphone after joining a child pornography on-line chat group.

The man, who has interim name suppression, admitted 18 charges of possessing, distributing, and importing objectionable publications, and five charges of making intimate visual recordings of another person when he appeared in the Kaikoura District Court on Friday.

He denied 10 charges of exporting and one representative charge of importing objectionable material, found on his cellphone by New Zealand Customs officers at Auckland International Airport after returning from an overseas trip in November.

A further 28 charges related to the child pornography offending were withdrawn.

The man was initially charged with 62 related offences laid by three government agencies – police, New Zealand Customs, and Internal Affairs.

The man’s offending began in early 2013 when he filmed and photographed intimate images of a young child in underwear, a court summary of facts showed.

He told police he had a sexual interest in young children under 9-years-old.    Read more »

The difference between retail and wholesale child pornography storage

Here’s a story about the incredible amount of extra-jurisdictional cooperation it requires to even bring in the most stupid of child porn consumers.

Assistance from United States Homeland Security and Yahoo has led to a Timaru man’s conviction for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse images.

Keith Mervyn Perrin, 57, a labourer, appeared in the Timaru District Court today and pleaded guilty to charges of possession of objectionable material and knowingly distributing such material.

The defendant possessed 7376 child sexual abuse images and videos depicting babies of approximately three months of age through to children aged in their early teens.

On March 9, 2013, Perrin, using his Yahoo Flickr account, uploaded four images depicting a young girl engaged in sexual activity or photographed in highly sexual poses that would be considered objectionable.

He did so using a New Zealand IP address.

Yahoo detected the uploads and referred them to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) system in the United States, which in turn referred the reports to New Zealand Internal Affairs.

At this point the information provided by the organisation was not sufficient to further identify Perrin.

On March 28, 2013, assistance was sought from the United States Homeland Security investigations agency to obtain full details from Yahoo of the user account associated with the Flickr username.

This was provided on June 3, 2013.

On November 4, 2013 a search warrant was executed at the defendant’s address.

This is because the idiot made no attempts at hiding who or where he was on the Internet.  And yet, look how much cooperation went into this.  None of the parties are actually obliged to share information – it’s a miracle they got as far as they did.   The only common bond being that kiddy fiddlers are pretty much despised world-wide. Back in the real world…

…where people who shoot photos in public places of clothed women’s torsos are named, shamed and have their picture in the paper, we now have another travesty of name suppression

A man who admitted having and sharing child pornography has won permanent name suppression in the High Court, because his wife has a heart condition.

In June, the man was sentenced in the Auckland District Court to 10 months’ home detention for exporting objectionable material and possessing pictures, many of which showed men raping children.

When the court refused to grant name suppression the man’s lawyer appealed, saying his client’s wife had a heart condition and her heart could stop under stress if he is named.

Far be it from me to say what could or could not happen.  But I would imagine that his wife’s heart condition is already pretty much stressed by her husband being a child pornographer and having a six year old daughter living in the house with them.   Read more »

New Zealanders are already being spied on wholesale. Legally too.

What is the fuss about the GCSB and NSA? Our Dept of Internal Affairs conducts widespread Internet surveillance with international cooperation to catch child pornographers every day of the week:

What is the Department’s response to concerns that the filter impacts on the civil liberties of New Zealand internet users?

No one has the right to view illegal content that focuses on the sexual abuse of children; just as no one has a right to import illegal books and DVDs.

The filter will focus solely on websites offering clearly illegal, objectionable images of child sexual abuse.

It is a prevention tool, not a law enforcement tool and the anonymity of anyone who is blocked from accessing objectionable sites will be preserved.

The Department is concerned about the sexual abuse of children involved in the creation of the objectionable pictures.

The adults who make, trade or view these in New Zealand are parties to a serious offence. They contribute to an international market that supports and encourages further abuse.

The children who are victims of this activity sometimes suffer the psychological effects of their abuse for many years after the physical offending has ended.

Images that are distributed on the Internet never go away. With each download the person involved is re-victimised.   Read more »

UK move to making covering up of abuse a criminal offence

There are moves in the UK to make the covering up of abuse a criminal offence.

That should make school principals and the Catholic Church extremely nervous.

No doubt in New Zealand we will here from the likes of Hone Harawira and Ranginui Walker how such a law would be racist against Maori, delivered breathlessly to a fawning media without even a hint of irony.

The man leading a review into how the Home Office handled historical allegations of child abuse has said people who cover up such crimes should be prosecuted.

NSPCC chief Peter Wanless also said there should be a duty on institutions like hospitals, children’s homes and boarding schools to report abuse.   Read more »

Rolf Harris also busted with stacks of kiddy porn

7lDQe0rRolf Harris, convicted groper and sex pest was also busted with an extensive electronic library of kiddy porn.

Police found a secret stash of child pornography images on Rolf Harris’ computer at home, it can now be revealed.

He insisted any child abuse images found their way onto his hard drive by mistake when he was clicking from one site to another searching for ‘kind girls’ and ‘babes’.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) wanted to put the veteran entertainer on trial for possessing indecent images, but yesterday the charges were dropped amid fears that the CPS ‘could be considered oppressive’ in light of his conviction for indecent assault.

Harris compiled a sickening catalogue of images of ‘extremely young’ children under 13 posing suggestively while semi-naked, with teddy bears in the foreground.

Detectives found a total of 33 indecent images of boys and girls downloaded from depraved websites named, ‘Tiny Teen P***y’, ‘Little Vaginas’, ‘Youngest Teen Porn’ and ‘Young Little Girlies’ months before he was questioned under caution for sexually assaulting girls as young as seven.   Read more »
