Here we go again, same problem different day. The Internet has become the Wild West and the Hackers are the outlaws. We desperately need some Sheriffs to saddle up,round them up, then hang em high! We need to use our Government Spy networks to catch them and we need to re-write our laws to bring them up to date with the reality of the Internet.

2014 appears to be the year of the Hacker as they move from targeting individuals that they have a grudge against to targeting corporations. Hacking is no longer just about stealing information to hand to the Media to embarrass or damage an individual or company. It is now used to blackmail. Hacking is also now about disrupting and closing internet services with cyber attacks. Hackers have moved from cyber burglary to cyber terrorism. This is a worrying trend.

Who will be next?

Xbox and PlayStation online services have crashed amid claims a hacking group has disabled their services.

Microsoft and Sony, the companies which make the gaming consoles, have told customers they are aware of connection failures after being hit by a suspected cyber attack.

Merry Christmas – My Christmas Message

Whale Oil Blogger Cameron Slater Portrait Session

Last night Pete joked that I should do a Christmas message for all the readers and commenters.

It nagged away at me, damn you Pete…

But seriously folks I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

It has been a pretty tough year, It started really with a criminal act, the take down of the server and the hacks of my emails and social media.

Little did I know at the time what the left-wing had planned and executed.

It all unfolded as I was flying from Fiji to Seoul and when I landed at Incheon airport my phone went nuts.

I was overnighting there on my way to Israel via Paris. I put in place a plan and spoke with my friends and planned our response. I got 3 hours sleep and the next morning I was on a plane to Paris.

Can you imagine the stress I was under?

I didn’t have all the information, I had a deluge of emails and messages, plus there was a campaign underway to try and rack up my phone bills by people calling me and hanging up…there were literally hundreds of those.

Sitting on the plane to Paris was excruciating, totally out of contact, worrying about my friends who were under attack as well, and especially worrying about my family under siege by scumbag journalists doorstepping my wife and kids.

Same with the flight into Tel Aviv from Paris.

It was a rolling storm and I was half a world away and 9 hours behind in  a very strange land.

The next night there I was standing on a balcony in Tel Aviv with the city behind me talking on breakfast TV in New Zealand while it was midnight in Israel.    Read more »

Good, I hope it is bland tasting too

Don’t get locked up today or over the holiday period…it won’t be fun.

The Herald reports:

Offenders who get locked up for Christmas can forget about a special meal from the cops on the big day.

Anyone detained by police gets a basic meal three times a day, every day of the year with the same meals rolled out on Christmas Day as on any other day.

While meals differ from station to station, the quality is much the same.  Read more »

Whale Week What Was

QC7kkThe blog started Saturday by having a look at a number of Christchurch people taking pictures up women’s skirts at malls.  And wouldn’t you know it?  A teacher was arrested as well.  Iain Lees-Galloway shows he is a slimy git by opening a Burger King and then refusing to take a bite, preferring to preach sensible food choices.  Cam then called for nominations for Worst Political Journalist, and Barry Soper and John Campbell appeared hot favourites.   Next we had a vote on Best Political Journalist, which Larry Williams took out with a massive 47% of the vote.  Graham McCready withdrew litigation against John Banks because it made no sense to anyone – as in – they couldn’t understand what it said.  Whale then claims a win on his Hekia Parata predictions and wonders why Key has let this train wreck happen.  We raise our eyebrows about Nelson looking for a scooter riding bottom pincher and then watch a video of what happens to a pig at the bottom of the sea over 7 days.  Next a post where Greens are fighting Greens over the Google solar plant.  On the one side: solar energy.  On the other? Turtles.   Charles Krauthammer explains why gun control alone isn’t the solution to mass shootings.   A MENSA spokesperson calls people with low IQs carrots and the BBC feels they have to apologise.  There is a property for sale next to Kim Dotcom‘s place.  Cam suggests the GCSB or the US should have bought it to set up spying operations.   WOBH is calling for The Whale Army to send in their holiday snaps, in a new feature called Snapped!  Cam takes a brief look at who will enter parliament if Tim Groser leaves for the WTO.  To close the day, a WhaleTech post looks at a the cull-de-sac that’s the QII roll-up keyboard.
