Erin Leigh

The lies and defamations of Clare Curran

Clare Curran has been busted in a lie and a defamation.

Back on the 4th and 5th of September she used parliamentary privilege to attack and defame a candidate for CEO of Maori Television. Many left-wing blogs and the media jumped on board.

There was a slight problem though…she was wrong…dead wrong.

The Speaker has released his findings that the the parliamentary record should now incorporate a statement from Paora Maxwell.

This is polite parliamentary speak which basically means Clare Curran lied and defamed a member of the public and used parliamentary privilege to do so, and how the record must be corrected by adding a personal statement from Paora Maxwell.? Read more »

Serial Defamer Mallard On Ropes Again

Remember this? ?

In September 2011 I posted on the Erin Leigh case. ?NBR (paid) section has this update:

The Supreme Court now is to rule on it.

While Trevor Mallard cannot be sued in this case as he did not have the guts to step outside the House it is yet another reminder to him that his serial defaming of people based on “mis-reading advice” or in the real world we call it – making damaging shit up, will not go away.

David Shearer needs to show leadership

David Shearer has claimed he doesn?t like gotcha politics, yet yesterday senior MPs Trevor Mallard and Grant Robertson, along with aspiring senior MP and former party president Andrew Little launched a disgraceful, untrue attack on Judith Collins, Simon Lusk and me. They continued their disgraceful attacks in the House today.

This attack is typical of Mallard. Make shit up, throw it, see what sticks, and brazen it out afterwards. These attacks are all based on ?an anonymous email from a reliable source?.

The problem for David Shearer is while Mallard and his thuggish henchmen are running this kind of stupid, baseless attack all it does is continue to frame the Labour Party as the Nasty Party. It also detracts from Shearer?s leadership, as he looks like Goff did, when Robertson stood up to him and told him to be soft on Maoris or else.

None of this is going to go well for Labour. Ministers do not threaten defamation action without good cause, and as I know all parties involved in this dispute there is no way there is any link between Judith Collins and Simon Lusk. So school yard bully Mallard will be forced to apologise or will lose a defamation case. In the mean time his nastiness continues to brand Labour as the Nasty Party.

David Shearer’s leadership and chance of being Prime Minister is under threat by this kind of stupid attack where there is no evidence at all of what Mallard is saying. Politicians lying never goes down well with the public, as Anna Bligh recently found out. ?He should take Trevor aside and tell him to apologise in full immediately, or he will be stripped of his portfolios and returned to the back bench. In fact he should strip him of his portfolios and the Shadow Leader of the House anyway.

I don?t believe that David Shearer has anything to do with these attacks, but he is as much a victim as those Mallard has accused. Just as he was the victim when Mallard got busted scalping tickets on Trademe, and Goff was a victim when Mallard chose to indulge in an asymmetrical war against me where he couldn?t win and I had nothing to lose.

Mallard has a?history?of defamation, and a history of scurrilous anonymous smears.

A quick search of Google shows Mallard has form.

He defamed Erin Leigh.

He also defamed Amokura Panaho along with John Tamihere. They had to pay her $7500 each for that defamation.

Then there is the case of his defamation of Rosemary Bradford.?This story is interesting as there’s a claim Labour asked officials to provide the dirt on MPs spouses. ?A bit like the Erin Leigh issue.

Then of course there was the American Bagman smear that went nowhere. He still maintains he was right yet hasnpt produced a shred of evudence to back up his allegations.

Now has taken a step too far, together with Grant Robertson and Andrew Little they have defamed Judith Collins, for which she is suing them, and also Simon Lusk and myself. They ar too cowardly to step outside the house and repeat the smears against me and Simon and so I am left to?defend?myself via the blog.

David Shearer needs to?discipline?all three but mostly he needs to yank Mallard back into line. If he doesn’t then his leadership is finished and we will be talking sooner rather than alter about Grant Robertson’s ascendency to Labour’s leadership.

Will Mallard apologise?

Duncan Garner blogs the the attack dogs who behaved so disgracefully toward Erin Leigh should apologise:

Remember Erin Leigh? You may not.

Here’s a quick synopsis. She worked at the Environment Ministry in 2006 as a communications consultant and witnessed Labour Party Ministers David Benson-Pope and David Parker’s complete politicisation of the Department. Benson-Pope was sacked for lying over his role in getting rid of a completely competent and professional woman whose partner worked for the National Party. Then enter Parker the new Minister. Parker hired Clare Curran (now a Labour MP) as an “independent consultant” in the Department, to run the PR team – he claimed she was politically neutral.

In my opinion it was so Labour could control and run the messages the Department was sending out. Leigh left in the end – disgusted with what she witnessed, but stayed silent until I rang her in 2007.?Leigh ended up speaking out, she was a brave and consummate neutral public servant – who witnessed something that was wrong. But the Labour Party, supported by the so called “neutral” public service management, brutally attacked her, her work and her reputation. Leigh took the Crown to the Supreme Court and last week she finally won.

That is the history, but will the protagonists now apologise:

Firstly, Leigh in my view deserves an apology, and a payout to not only cover costs, but to reflect damages. This has destroyed her in many ways.

The apology must first and foremost come from the State Services Commissioner Iain Rennie.

He needs to make good on all the rhetoric he and his Department talk about every day about ethics and the neutrality of the public service. A real and brave leader would stand up Iain. Make good on all your talk, and all your workshops. Because without an apology from you on behalf of the public service, your talk is cheap Iain.

I have always believed that consecutive State Services Commissioner’s haved protected and covered the backsides of the Government of the day – that’s their role – despite all their hollow talk of neutrality.

Mark Prebble covered Labour’s butt in this case, and documents I have prove Rennie was heavily involved behind the scenes in this one too. He must front and apologise on behalf of the Crown to Leigh immediately. Will he do it? I doubt it.

Mark Prebble should scratch his conscience and do it too.

If they won’t then the head of the Environment Ministry should stand up and do it. But he won’t get that past his boss Rennie.

David Parker should also acknowledge his role in all this and openly apologise to Leigh. Clare Curran should do the same.

Trevor Mallard’s apology at the time was half-hearted, coming out stronger now Erin Leigh has won her case certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Fatc hance Malalrd will apologise, his is the most outrageous attack, and done under the cover of parliamentary privilege. It was appalling and it was cowardly, both traits with which we have come to associate Trevor Mallard.
