Winter may be coming for the MSM but New Media is snug and warm

Cam’s good mate Chris Trotter drew his attention to an article titled “Winter is Coming: Prospects for the American Press Under Trump.” I read it and while I agree that winter is coming for the American MSM, they are the grasshopper and New Media like Breitbart and Drudge Report are the ant. For those of you unfamiliar with the fable, the grasshopper enjoyed himself during the summer and didn’t understand why the ant laboured away gathering and storing food in preparation for Winter. The grasshopper ended up begging the Ant for food.

New Media have worked hard to gain the readership they have today and they haven’t taken their audiences for granted. They are very aware that their financial existence is wholly dependent on their audience and they are very in tune with their audience because New Media is internet based. New Media knows which articles they publish are popular and which are not. They know which articles got the most comments and which ones got the most views. They know which ones were shared the most. In short, they have their finger on the pulse of their audience. In contrast, establishment media have taken their readers for granted. They still think and work with the old paradigm which worked well for a paper publication with deadlines in the days when there was no online news or New Media competition. They have failed to adequately adapt and now as the article says, winter is coming and they must pay the price.

What came first the Islam or the mental illness?

Fort Lauderdale Jihadist Esteban Santiago joined MySpace as ?Aashiq Hammad? and recorded Islamic religious music three years before he travelled to Iraq as an American soldier. The mainstream media narrative is that his mental illness was caused by his time in Iraq and that he was then radicalised by ISIS videos but that is not the full story according to New Media outlet have a research team who quickly out researched the mainstream media on this story by searching the internet for clues.

…destroying the lying mainstream media?s narrative that he was just a mentally disturbed veteran and that ?Islam had nothing to do with it.?

…A search of public records database Nexis reveals that Puerto Rican Esteban Santiago has a brother named Bryan Santiago and two e-mails registered to his name:

If we judged what was important by NZ Media news stories

Some people seem to think that if the New Zealand mainstream media are not particularly interested in a news story then it can’t be very important. I propose the opposite point of view. If the NZ media are covering it then it probably isn’t very important because much of our media has more in common with a women’s weekly magazine than they do with a serious newspaper.

These days it is often the new media outlets like Breitbart and The Rebel Media who do in-depth?analysis and coverage of worldwide events. To prove my point let’s compare some of yesterday’s?headlines.

The New Zealand Herald headlines and videos:

New Media are taking on the big boys and are growing

I love is mainly written news and I am also a big fan of the Canadian,The Rebel Media which is mainly video news. The Rebel Media has crowdsourced most of its equipment in the past and as it expands it is continuing to do so.

The fact that its readers are supporting them by donating to each project shows that the video news service they are providing is what their audience wants and that they are covering the topics of interest that their audience wants?to be covered. Like, The ?Rebel Media’s point ?of difference is that they cover the stories that the Mainstream media refuse to. Imagine if a New Zealand mainstream media company tried to get its readership to pay for a studio camera. They wouldn’t be able to raise a cent because they are not producing content that their readership values. New Media cannot grow if it doesn’t give its audience what it wants which is why Mainstream media is failing and Rebel Media like Breitbart has its audience numbers exploding.

Below is an abridged version of an e-mail I received from Ezra?Levant explaining the Rebel Media’s plans.

Advertising is New Media’s Achilles heel

Make no mistake?New Media is going up against the establishment and it’s success with the?public is tempered by its vulnerability to attacks on its advertising revenue. Breitbart News is the new News sheriff in town and is expanding rapidly but the establishment who preferred the old News sheriff still have a few bullets in their arsenal. If they can’t beat the new News by being better they will instead try to beat it by crippling it economically. It is a bit like the ageing Sheriff with arthritis trying to get rid of his rival not in a gun fight but by talking the local store into refusing to sell him any supplies for his ranch. He might be the better gunslinger but how long can he last without any supplies?

Dirty Politics by committee

We all know that Nicky Hager has told us that skillfully and effectively influencing the media to push a certain political agenda has only been achieved by the National Party. The National Party he said, were only able to achieve what they did with the help of influential and popular right-wing Bloggers who would hand interesting stories on a platter to journalists who were happy to take the credit and reduce their workloads. The Labour?Party?clearly read the book cover to cover because as we wrote about earlier this year they were canvassing their supporters by e-mail for sob stories on certain topics like housing which would then a few weeks later mysteriously appear in the media.

The Labour Party are not the only political group to think that if the right can influence voters then they can too. A group called ActionStation have decided to have a go at influencing the media themselves. Unlike the original Dirty Politics masters, however, they have eschewed dark smoke-filled rooms for their strategy sessions and have instead ?decided to plot by committee.

What could possibly go wrong?

Non PC Media sites are as hot as the Auckland Housing Market

There is a reason why Whaleoil is so popular ?and is the number one blog site in New Zealand. ?Like Auckland houses, non-PC media sites are in demand. ?Readers are flocking to them because they are sick of the standard one-eyed fare from traditional media. For true media balance there needs to be both sides of the story. PC opinions need the counterbalance of sometimes “offensive” truth. The latest website to soar in popularity is

Breitbart News smashed company traffic records in July, generating 192 million pageviews, 31 million unique visitors, and 89 million sessions. Last month?s metrics pushed the conservative news giant to over one billion pageviews so far in 2016?a 28% jump in 30 days from last month?s previous record high.

?We set out to build a first-in-class media company that provides warp speed, on the ground reporting from anywhere in the world,? said Breitbart CEO and President Larry Solov. ?From London to Los Angeles, Jerusalem to the Rio Grande?Breitbart is there. These latest traffic metrics are further evidence that strategy connects with our massive and growing global audience.?

When the company re-launched its website in 2012, Breitbart generated roughly 12 million pageviews a month; today, it does 16 times as much traffic.

Whaleoil, a shadow of its former self and dying?

I always listen to our critics, because they are the most ruthless in assessing your own performance. ?And certainly, after 2014 when we were at the center of everything, 2015 has felt a lot quieter. ?But is Whaleoil dying? ?Let’s take a look.

(all tables and graphs are page views)

So we lost about 6,000,000 page views since?2014 during a year when we were no longer the story and when everything was pretty boring politically. ?There was no high profile scandal, there was no Labour leadership battle, and the whole year was basically just one flag debate with the occasional smattering of crimes in various contexts.

As you can see, the blog peaked during the election – and as a political blog, that’s pretty much to be expected. ? ? Read more »

The local German Press are not allowed to report on what is happening inside German Hospitals

The below letter is from a retired physician who had returned to work at a Munich area hospital where they needed an anaesthesiologist. She e-mailed the following letter to her friend in Prague. The letter has been read out on Czech Television but in Germany the issues mentioned in the letter are not being reported on by the German Press because they have been told to not write anything negative about the migrants. Merkel’s government fears that the German population will react badly to the truth, so like bad governments throughout history the truth is being suppressed. Despite this German’s are protesting in record numbers as they can see the negative effects of record migration in their own towns and cities but you will only find articles and photos describing the protests on New Media. Even international media seem to be going along with the Blackout on bad news about migrants in Germany.

Yesterday, at the hospital we had a meeting about how the situation here and at the other Munich hospitals is unsustainable. Clinics cannot handle emergencies, so they are starting to send everything to the hospitals.

Many Muslims are refusing treatment by female staff and, we, women, are refusing to go among those animals, especially from Africa. Relations between the staff and migrants are going from bad to worse. Since last weekend, migrants going to the hospitals must be accompanied by police with K-9 units.

Many [Muslim] migrants have AIDS, syphilis, open TB and many exotic diseases that we, in Europe, do not know how to treat them. If they receive a prescription in the pharmacy, they learn they have to pay cash. This leads to unbelievable outbursts, especially when it is about drugs for the children. They abandon the children with pharmacy staff with the words: ?So, cure them here yourselves!? So the police are not just guarding the clinics and hospitals, but also large pharmacies.

The Public have an appetite for ‘ Rebel ‘ media

It has always amused me that both ?Whaleoil and Charter Schools have been called controversial by the MSM. Charter schools aren’t controversial, they are just a different model. They are only called controversial because the PPTA has a campaign against them just like Whaleoil has a left wing campaign against it. It seems if there is a politically active group doing their very best to silence and destroy you that makes you controversial in the Mainstream Media’s eyes.

No matter how many negative adjectives the MSM uses there is a clear public appetite for ‘ controversial ‘ or ‘ rebel ‘ ways of doing things. According to the latest?Open Parachute figures ?Whaleoil is still number one by a million country miles.

Public interest in different ‘ rebel ‘ media models like Whaleoil isn’t limited to New Zealand. One great example from Canada is run by Ezra Levant.
