North Shore

Thanks a bunch Sue and Michelle

Sue Wood and Michelle Boag have helped deliver Labour-aligned councillors to North Shore with their ill-fated and frankly bizarre set up called Auckland Future.

After a nail-biting race to the finish line, Richard Hills takes his seat at the council table next to North Shore ward councillor Chris Darby.

The announcement was confirmed at 9am this morning, October 14, following a neck-and-neck race between Hills and rival Grant Gillon.

Hills takes the title by 128 special votes.

Hills and Darby were campaign partners for this election, and are looking forward to working together.

Hills says he’s chuffed and it feels real now.

Darby says it just seemed like a “natural fit” to work with Hills.   Read more »

More on the Auckland Future Clusterf***

Auckland Future decided to arsehole long term councillor and very, very reliable right-winger George Wood in North Shore so their hand-picked candidates could run.

Flee Aucklanders, Flee while you can

Campaigners are calling for plans for a vehicle tunnel under Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour to be ditched in favour of a train-only option.

The plan currently being investigated features two three-lane car tunnels which will also have capacity for a rapid transit system.

But the Campaign for Better Transport’s Cameron Pitches said it made no sense to prioritise cars, given it would increase traffic congestion into the city.

“We have enough capacity for cars and trucks. It is rapid transit capacity that Auckland lacks,” he said.

He said a rail crossing would provide more capacity and generate less carbon and has launched a campaign – North Shore Rail – to support it. Read more »

Maggie Barry hits the ground running

Maggie Barry has started well. Not only has she sledged the Clown of Campbells Bay but she has also told Len Brown to go fly a kite over his silly rail loop and Labour to get stuffed for using “holiday highway”.

Maggie Barry hit the ground running as the North Shore electorate’s first woman MP.

The morning after National’s resounding victory she sent a strong message to Auckland mayor Len Brown, saying there would be a CBD rail link before a second harbour crossing “over our dead bodies”.

And the former broadcaster also affirmed her support for the Puhoi-Wellsford motorway extension.

She attacked those who have labelled it the “holiday highway.

“I refuse to use the `H’ word. It will be an umbilical cord for the far north and its economy.

“It is an arrogance for the critics to take money already set aside for this purpose and use it for something else.”

Northshore: The Dry Don, Wet Maggie and the Soak

Don Brash has, surprise, surprise, had a change of mind and has decided to stand in a seat.

ACT leader Don Brash has changed his mind about standing in an electorate and has picked North Shore as the place to do so.

The North Shore seat has already attracted media attention for National’s candidate choice of Maggie Barry, a political newcomer and former broadcaster.

Brash says Act’s board  persuaded him to stand on the Shore and seek the party vote, where it believes it has strong support.

”It’s a very important part of the country for us,” Brash said. ”Originally I planned not to stand in any electorate because I felt it was important to travel the countryside to encourage the party vote, and I’m still planning to do that.”

He says he would be delighted if people give the party and himself the tick at the election but  he is primarily after the party vote.

I think Don has had a brain embolism. He should have gone up against a deeply unpopular and ill Allan Peachey. He would have won Tamaki and broken the one seat hoodoo that besets small parties.

So in North Shore now we have Dry Don, Sopping Wet Maggie and The Soak.

Round One to Maggie

Round one to Maggie Barry.

No pohutukawa is safe now Andrew Williams is running for election in the North Shore, National candidate Maggie Barry says.

The Clown of Campbells Bay, Andrew Williams has been caught in splashback after attempting to piss on Maggie.

North Shore Selection – Maggie Barry on first ballot

Maggie Barry has won the selection for National in north Shore on the first ballot.

That is a resounding victory. Well done to her. She will now become the National MP for North Shore on 26 November.

Good comment

Early this morning my resident pinko troll mediatart made the following comment:

Mediatart comment on Whaleoil

Steven Joyce is not interested in Rodney, but North Shore despite the misgivings of the Prime Minister who wants his master strategist to focus ion the whole country rather than just one seat. He has the president trying to scare away contenders so Steven can get selected unopposed. The other list MPs in Auckland are not strong enough to win selection in any seat, so don’t expect Melissa Lee, Jacqui Blue or Cam Calder to put their names forward anywhere other than where they are now.  The weakness of the candidates college which was largely dormant until late last year means there are few people coming through for selection that the public could get excited about.

Sometimes commenters can be very perspicacious, this is one reason why I like mediatart‘s” commentary….sometimes.

Albany Superette – Get all your P supplies there

I had a call today from someone who had a video of a superette owner in Albany selling P and other drug paraphernalia. So I went over and had a chat then looked at the video and after a bite of lunch went and had a gander at the store itself.

It is the Albany Superette at 372 Rosedale Road, Albany.

I went in and sure enough they have all sorts of pipes from brass ones for dope up to various different glass types for “P” smoking along with various types of bongs.

Right by the pipes at the counter is also different types of energy drinks, the sorts that kids like to buy. Not only that the shop is actually selling “point bags” (empty of course but what else do you put in little bags like that?).

Here is the video.

When my informant filmed the video he was finally escorted from the store and assaulted by the owner and his three sons. At the same time as this was happening he was being watched over by a clear Mongrel Mob associate, all coloured up and complete with tats. He has bruises on his arms to show for it.

This is the store owner who admits on video that he sells pipes to kids, and that those pipes are for smoking “P”.

Albany Superette is, 700 metres from Albany Junior High School, 350m from Kristin School, and 900m from Pinehurst School, Albany.

This guy is selling items that have no legal purpose and he is selling them to school kids.

Currently before the house is the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill 2010 which includes the following changes to existing law;

The current offence provision is in Section 22(3) which provides as follows that every person commits an offence against the Act who:

  • supplies a pipe or other utensil whose supply is absolutely prohibited by a notice issued under subsection (1A) (Section 22(3)(a); or
  • supplies a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe or utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be supplied (Section 22(3)(a); or
  • imports a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe or utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be imported (Section 22(3)(a).

The Bill replaces the above current provision with the following more detailed wording:

  • “Every person commits an offence against this Act who:
  • supplies, possesses for the purpose of sale or supply, or offers for sale a pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil whose sale, possession for the purpose of sale or supply, or offering for sale (as the case may be) is absolutely prohibited by a notice issued under subsection (1A) (New Section 22(3)(a)); or
  • “(b) supplies, possesses for the purpose of sale or supply, or offers for sale a pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be supplied, possessed for the purpose of sale or supply, or offered for sale (as the case may be) (New Section 22(3)(b)); or
  • “(c) imports a pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be imported (New Section 22(3)(c))”. (Part 1, substituted Section 22(3) of the Act).

It is clear that even under current law the Albany Superette may well be acting illegally, certainly when the new law is passed he certainly will be. Not a single one of those items has a legitimate purpose, and worse he is happily selling them to kids. If the powers that be won’t do anything then people power should by boycotting this store until he cleans his act up.

Those Clever Labour fellows helping Len Brown

Clever: Leaving your campaign van parked near an Auckland nightspot as free advertising.

Good advertising near night spots

Oh look, what's those papers there?

Not clever: Leaving printed political emails on the dashboard of that van.

Now we known without a shadow of a doubt the paid Labour staffers are helping Len Brown’s campaign and that they think that the left wing campaign on the North Shore is “bizarre” and has “faction problems”.
