They’ve lived on different continents for seven years but Peter Davis says he’s ready to move to New York if his wife, Helen Clark, gets the UN’s top job.

The couple’s lived apart for the tenure of her role as head of the UNDP, with Dr Davis opting to stay in New Zealand where he’s a sociology professor at Auckland University.

Cunliffe’s wife writes new chapter for dirty politics

Generally political spouses do not enter the fray. There is an unwritten rule not to go after families.

That of course changes when the families go after you.

Then the gloves come off.

As I predicted the Labour leadership spill has got real nasty, and now Karen Price, Mrs Cunliffe for?those who don’t know, has entered the political fray jumping on Twitter to abuse those who oppose her husband.

The distraught wife of Labour leadership contender David Cunliffe is behind a Twitter account that anonymously took aim at his rivals and critics.

Karen Price, a high-flying environmental lawyer, is understood to have started the @TarnBabe67 account on Saturday, the day Cunliffe indicated he would resign as Labour leader.

The account first attacked a newspaper for running candid pictures of the New Lynn MP, and went on to criticise others in the media. But the worst barbs were saved for those said to be in the “Anyone But Cunliffe” leadership faction, naming his rival Grant Robertson and MPs Trevor Mallard and Clayton Cosgrove. ? Read more »

Bad better than Mad

John Key has signalled a softening in his approach to NZ First, and also that Colin Craig’s cult aren’t quite there when it comes to preferred parties to work with.

Adam Bennett makes a good fist of explaining Key’s position in the Herald:

National could work with Winston Peters’ NZ First after this year’s election, Prime Minister John Key said yesterday in a reversal of his stance at the past two elections.

Outlining which parties National could work with, Mr Key said he would prefer to continue working with Act, the Maori Party and United Future after this year’s election but could add Colin Craig’s Conservative Party.

However, he would not rule out NZ First.

This framing of the argument was superb, because all the media are now talking about National and its partners, shutting out the coalition of the losers from political discussion.

“It’s not like it was in 2008 and 2011 where, if he’d held the balance of power, I would have rung the leader of the Labour Party and said you’re now the prime minister because we’re not going to deal with the guy.

“A few things have changed since then,” Mr Key said.? Read more »

Preparing for the whitewash

So far the spin and process from Len Brown’s ratepayer funded spin weasels has followed the David Lewis playbook to the letter. He used this in hosing down speculation about Peter Davis, fixing up the David Benson-Pope scandal, Dover Samuels, ?and many other issues Helen Clark faced.

It goes like this.

Do the faux apology without actually saying sorry…then roll out the family…the next step is to have a meaningless inquiry that will produce a whitewash…

Spending by Auckland mayor Len Brown while he conducted a two-year extramarital affair is to be reviewed.

Mr Brown, who admitted the affair on Tuesday, has said there was no inappropriate spending or use of council resources involved in the affair.

The Auckland Council’s chief executive, Doug McKay, says he has received assurances from the Mr Brown and his chief of staff that no mayoral office funds were used in relation to the affair – but says he will independently review it anyway.

Mr McKay reiterated that the mayor doesn’t have a credit card, and all invoices and payments are checked and approved by other staff. It is not known when the review will be completed.? Read more »

A letter from Peter Davis

A Mr Peter Davis of ?Kingsland writes to the Herald in praise of an article by Brian “Where’s my theatre?” Rudman:

I wonder if he sought permission for that letter, or whether it was dictated over Skype.

It’s election year, must be time for a letter from Dr Peter Davis

Sure enough, here it is:

Former first bloke, Dr Peter Davis, must be feeling emboldened with his missus residing offshore these days. Imagine the courage required to to say that he find the current labour platform “among the best” he has seen.

The poor sad little man.

A lot of nervous MPs

Pete Hodgson’s hit on Pansy Wong will have caused ructions, not just in National, but across all other parties as MPs rack their feeble minds about whether or not they conducted even 5 minutes of?business?while they availed themselves of taxpayer funded travel.

It isn’t then a surprise that many MPs are calling for the end of what could possibly be the end of them.

While Hodgson can claim the scalp he should really hand the kudos to an embittered investor intent on revenge for getting tucked in a business deal in China. He really should have read my post about understanding how business is conducted in China, in particular these translations;

Spirit of co-operation and partnership? ? you do what we?say.

?We are not in competition we are partners? ? I?m going to bend you over and screw you from behind once we?ve stolen, or borrowed, or unpicked your?IP?and under-cutting you in a factory in Guangdong.

Meanwhile plenty of other MPs and ex-MPs will be quietly hoping that interested media and bloggers don’t start going over their ravel expenses and matching them to meetings or document signings or photos in social media.

It is beyond even the most partisan hack’s justification to suggest that MPs an their spouses/partners availing themselves of the travel perk never conducted even a minute of business while using the travel perk.

To suggest that is the case stretches the boundaries of truth just too far. Are they really saying that when Peter Davis travelled on his spouses perk that he never, not once, ever conducted any business or research or even held a 10 minute meeting in the Koru Club related to his line work?

Or any number of the MPs who hold directorships, trusteeships or interets outside of parliament never took a call on their phone that took 5 minutes while they were on holiday and discussed business or otherwise.

Pete Hodgson did us all a favour by attacking Pansy Wong, he ensured that every other MP in parliament is now looking over their shoulders, as well they should.

But watch as?collectively?they all do the wrong thing and squeal for compensation at the removal of the perk.

Another Climate Change Lie Exposed

hat tip Roar Prawn

I live for the day when Al Gore and his band of Merry Liars are paraded around nations on a worldwide tour of apology for lying to us about Climate Change.

Enough of the “science is settled” bullshit. Enough of the the ice is melting bullshit. The simple plain unadulterated fact is that it isn’t. Almost daily now we are starting to see that the Climate Change Emperor has no clothes.

ICE is expanding in much of Antarctica, contrary to the widespread public belief that global warming is melting the continental ice cap.

The results of ice-core drilling and sea ice monitoring indicate there is no large-scale melting of ice over most of Antarctica, although experts are concerned at ice losses on the continent’s western coast.

Antarctica has 90 per cent of the Earth’s ice and 80 per cent of its fresh water. Extensive melting of Antarctic ice sheets would be required to raise sea levels substantially, and ice is melting in parts of west Antarctica. The destabilisation of the Wilkins ice shelf generated international headlines this month.

However, the picture is very different in east Antarctica, which includes the territory claimed by Australia.

East Antarctica is four times the size of west Antarctica and parts of it are cooling. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research report prepared for last week’s meeting of Antarctic Treaty nations in Washington noted the South Pole had shown “significant cooling in recent decades”.

Australian Antarctic Division glaciology program head Ian Allison said sea ice losses in west Antarctica over the past 30 years had been more than offset by increases in the Ross Sea region, just one sector of east Antarctica.

“Sea ice conditions have remained stable in Antarctica generally,” Dr Allison said.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

The Greatest Lie ever Told

We’re all doomed the warmists exclaim, we’re all going to drown they whine endlessly, Didn’t you see An Inconvenient Truth? they whimper.

And they lie, they tell the greatest lie ever told.

If one thing more than any other is used to justify proposals that the world must spend tens of trillions of dollars on combating global warming, it is the belief that we face a disastrous rise in sea levels. The Antarctic and Greenland ice caps will melt, we are told, warming oceans will expand, and the result will be catastrophe.

Although the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) only predicts a sea level rise of 59cm (17 inches) by 2100, Al Gore in his Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth went much further, talking of 20 feet, and showing computer graphics of cities such as Shanghai and San Francisco half under water. We all know the graphic showing central London in similar plight. As for tiny island nations such as the Maldives and Tuvalu, as Prince Charles likes to tell us and the Archbishop of Canterbury was again parroting last week, they are due to vanish.
But if there is one scientist who knows more about sea levels than anyone else in the world it is the Swedish geologist and physicist Nils-Axel Mörner, formerly chairman of the INQUA International Commission on Sea Level Change. And the uncompromising verdict of Dr Mörner, who for 35 years has been using every known scientific method to study sea levels all over the globe, is that all this talk about the sea rising is nothing but a colossal scare story.

Despite fluctuations down as well as up, “the sea is not rising,” he says. “It hasn’t risen in 50 years.” If there is any rise this century it will “not be more than 10cm (four inches), with an uncertainty of plus or minus 10cm”. And quite apart from examining the hard evidence, he says, the elementary laws of physics (latent heat needed to melt ice) tell us that the apocalypse conjured up by
Al Gore and Co could not possibly come about.

If anyone knows about sea-levels it is this guy and he has looked at the computer models and found the lie, the big lie;

The reason why Dr Mörner, formerly a Stockholm professor, is so certain that these claims about sea level rise are 100 per cent wrong is that they are all based on computer model predictions, whereas his findings are based on “going into the field to observe what is actually happening in the real world”.

When running the International Commission on Sea Level Change, he launched a special project on the Maldives, whose leaders have for 20 years been calling for vast sums of international aid to stave off disaster. Six times he and his expert team visited the islands, to confirm that the sea has not risen for half a century. Before announcing his findings, he offered to show the inhabitants a film explaining why they had nothing to worry about. The government refused to let it be shown.

Similarly in Tuvalu, where local leaders have been calling for the inhabitants to be evacuated for 20 years, the sea has if anything dropped in recent decades. The only evidence the scaremongers can cite is based on the fact that extracting groundwater for pineapple growing has allowed seawater to seep in to replace it. Meanwhile, Venice has been sinking rather than the Adriatic rising, says Dr Mörner.

One of his most shocking discoveries was why the IPCC has been able to show sea levels rising by 2.3mm a year. Until 2003, even its own satellite-based evidence showed no upward trend. But suddenly the graph tilted upwards because the IPCC’s favoured experts had drawn on the finding of a single tide-gauge in Hong Kong harbour showing a 2.3mm rise. The entire global sea-level projection was then adjusted upwards by a “corrective factor” of 2.3mm, because, as the IPCC scientists admitted, they “needed to show a trend”.

Let us hear no more of rising sea levels, let us hear no more about computer models show us… is all bollocks, pseudo-science wrapped up in Warmist Jihadi fear mongering.

Al Gore and all the others that have lied about Climate Change should be publicly pilloried and then exiled to the sub-Antarctic.
