Freddy Mercury

Someone To Love

Legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest and most charismatic rock performers of all time, died 25 years ago, on Nov. 24, 1991. The official cause of death was bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS. Mercury would have turned 70 years old this year.

He’s “the most inspirational frontman of all time,” says My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way. A hard-rock hammerer, a disco glitterer, a rockabilly lover boy, Freddie Mercury was dynamite with a laser beam, his four-octave range overdubbed into a shimmering wall of sound on records such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Killer Queen.” Even as he was dying, Mercury threw himself into his majestic, operatic singing. Queen’s Brian May recalls that Mercury could hardly walk when the band recorded “The Show Must Go On” in 1990. “I said, ‘Fred, I don’t know if this is going to be possible to sing,’ ” May says. “And he went, ‘I’ll fing do it, darling’ ? vodka down ? and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal.”

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving.

Many conservative Saudi women do not support loosening traditional gender roles and restrictions, on the grounds that Saudi Arabia is the closest thing to an “ideal and pure Islamic nation,” and under threat from “imported Western values”.

-Wiki

I wonder if today’s face of the day thinks that Western Values are currently under threat by ‘ Pure ‘ Islam? in the UK?

Whatever her personal views I just love this true story of how she was not afraid to offend King Abdullah.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia died yesterday aged 90, and there has been some controversy over the tributes paid by world leaders to the ruler of a repressive regime that carries out public beheadings and bans women from driving.

Amid debate over whether flags should be flying at half-mast from government buildings, and Westminster Abbey, out of respect for Abdullah, it turns out, however, that our very own Queen had nailed the best way to handle the Saudi ruler many years ago.

This story, taken from former Saudi ambassador Sherard Cowper-Coles?s memoir Ever the Diplomat, was widely shared on social media on Friday; mainly because it?s amazing.

I suppose it is better than the Deliverance Duelling Banjos ringtone

An commentator in the UK has embarrassed himself on television when his iPad rang to the ringtone of Queen’s Fat Bottomed Girls.

Tory MP Shailesh Vara and Labour’s Caroline Flint’s heated debate about banking bonuses was momentarily halted as the song Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen started blarring out from Nick Robinson’s iPad on BBC’s Daily Politics show.

The two MPs were on the show with host Andrew Neil and the BBC political editor reviewing Prime Minister’s Questions, when out of the blue, their discussion of banker’s bonuses was interrupted by the Nick Robinson’s tablet ringtone playing the soft rock hit.? Read more »

Stop grabbing the Queen’s nuts

This is too funny for words.

Well, actually, it’s funny enough for words

The Queen was ?furious? after royal protection officers helped themselves to Bombay mix and nuts left out for her around Buckingham Palace, a court heard today.

Palace officials sent a memo to royal protection officers warning them to ?keep their sticky fingers out?, after Her Majesty noticed the snacks were disappearing, jurors at the Old Bailey were told.

The Queen became so incensed that she even began marking the bowls to check if the levels were dropping, it was suggested.

Imagine that. ?Someone as rich and powerful as that, and she keeps having ?her nuts pilfered by the Fuzz. ? Read more »
