Susan Wood on Labour’s leadership farce

Susan Wood doesn’t hold back with her thoughts on Labour’s leadership farce.

I’ve been thinking about leadership – real leadership and what it means.

I think this quote from a Harvard university professor sums it up. “Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence. And making it last in your absence”

That gets me to our political leadership and soon to be former Labour leader David Cunliffe. I have no doubt he is an intelligent man, a well-intentioned man. But he has failed as a leader. The voters rejected him and his own caucus turned on him. The men and women he is leading have not become better because of his leadership and his absence has left a gaping hole of indecision and infighting.

The election defeat was of course not all his fault, no more than the National victory was all John Key’s work. But a great deal of it was.

Yes indeed, and his failure to be accountable has annoyed a great many members.

Since election night Cunliffe has barely put a foot right. The bizarre election night speech, a failure to take responsibility then a belated acceptance of sorts, dragging his decision out for a week before standing aside only to stand again which will lead to a protracted public blood letting.    Read more »

Unions: It wasn’t David’s fault, we back Cunliffe

The cognitive dissonance of the left continues with two union leaders on Radio New Zealand professing undying love for David Cunliffe.

They both think that poor old David Cunliffe was hard done by.

These guys are so out of touch it isn’t funny.

There seems to be this continuing narrative that Labour should have gone further to the left.

Have they not noticed that 75% of people didn’t vote for labour and David Cunliffe. Read more »

Robert Reid of Onehunga? Was there really no one else the Herald could have used?

The Herald has a shocker today, a soft piece about David Cunliffe and Caropotamus walking the streets of Onehunga.

Here is the Headline and photo.

Now we know where Robert Reid’s anti Israeli diatribe is coming from: Helen Kelly

Several days ago I posted about  the leaking skull Unite Union general secretary Robert Reid’s incoherent utterances about Israel:

“New Zealand does have to have a stronger line, and make…absolutely say that what’s happening in Gaza is just beyond the pale. I mean, 1500 people dead already, 9000 injured, people locked in as David Shearer said, basically an open air prison and just being bombed every day of the week since this campaign’s been on. New Zealand has to step up and say more and part of saying more is to get over this thing about saying on one hand Israel, on one hand Hamas, the brutality, the war crimes that are happening are happening from the Israeli side and Israel has to be made to account for what is happening”

It seems pretty obvious where his uneducated diatribe is coming from, straight from the cranium of the Council of Trade Terrorist Unions (CTU) president Helen Kelly. Anyone that states that the war crimes are coming from one side and one side only has either been sitting in front of Al Jazeera all day or being fed misinformation from somebody else. Surely there has to be nothing more embarrassing in public than repeating something that someone else has told you that is patently wrong (think Winston Peters). Read more »

Forget Kristallnacht in Paris, check out the flag burning in Auckland

Mana operatives are deeply involved in pro-Palestinian and anti-Semitic activities around the country.

Last weekend at the protest in Auckland their flags were dominant, alone with Unite union and First union in an around the protests against Israelis protecting their citizens from terror attacks.

Mana is clearly involved in out and out anti-semitism – just disgusting filth when you see images like this.

First Union General Secretary misleads the NZ public on TV

On Q+A today on TV One Robert Reid said that the First Union does not advise its members who to vote for, though he did admit to reading WOBH.

Look at these quotes from their latest newsletter on their website (Union Express Page 14)

John Key has announced the Election date, which will be Saturday 20 September; in six months’ time.

FIRST Union will be working hard to get its members who are not enrolled to enrol, and will encourage them to vote.

FIRST believes that the political parties that support workers and people on the margins of society would be the most practical political parties to vote for. However, the CTU and FIRST Union campaign is not going to be based around encouraging citizens who to vote for, but around changing the government.   Read more »
