Yeah, but he didn’t mean it

John Key delivered just a solitary written apology in 2014, ironically to one of New Zealand’s most controversial political figures.

According to Key “to the best of my recollection”, the prime minister wrote just one letter of apology this year, parliamentary questions asked by the Labour Party show. Read more »

Now he’s sorry for being sorry for being a man…oh and for wearing a red scarf

David Cunliffe really does have a bad habit of being sorry.

Three weeks ago he was sorry for being a man. Yesterday he was sorry for going on holiday.

Today he is sorry for being sorry for being a man.

Mr Cunliffe said it been an “unhelpful” distraction. “I accept the way that was quoted out of context and bounced was unhelpful and I am determined that I will be extremely careful about the way I put things going forward.”

The Labour leader also said he would have reconsidered taking a holiday in the recess if he had known how bad the polls were. His red scarf would get fewer outings after comments were made about the regularity with which he wore it.

“I, like everybody else, need to stick closely to the core issues and I will be extremely careful about those little things, such as the scarf, that can become distractions.”

Face of the day

" I'm Sorry."

” I’m Sorry.”

I’m sorry for making David Cunliffe face of the day.

I apologise for him being a man because apparently it is bad to be a man.
I am sorry that his Leadership is taking the Labour party to new lows in popularity.
I am sorry that he still has not revealed his secret donors to his secret trust.
I am sorry that his C.V is not honest accurate.

I am sorry that he is let down supported by Moa lover Trev.

I am so so sorry

Please forgive me.

David Fisher, Tim Murphy, THIS is how you do a genuine apology

Hi Duncan,

I just wanted to drop you a personal apology for that egregious headline and article yesterday! When it was brought to my attention, I ordered its immediate removal from the site. I am sincerely sorry for any stress that it caused you and your family!

We have one of the best resourced, business focused news rooms in the country. Our readers deserve better than what was served up yesterday by Jock Anderson.

On a personal note, I wish you every success for the new show.

I'm so sorry

I would like to take the opportunity to give my heart-felt apologies to Trevor Mallard.

I mocked him and lambasted him for wasting his time on a bike race while Labour languished in the polls. I blamed him for being focused on a bike race over the campaign.

I wonder though what to say now that Labour are?hemorrhaging support to the Greens?when he is fully focused on the campaign instead of cycling. Does he need another distraction?

A personal message to Brian Tamaki

Brian Tamaki needs to read his bible.

The leader of Destiny Church, Brian Tamaki, who not long ago anointed himself bishop of the church he founded, has now proclaimed himself the church’s “spiritual father” and designated the male members of the church as “spiritual sons”.

At a special service during the church’s annual conference in Auckland at the weekend, about 700 male members of the church swore a “covenant oath” of loyalty and obedience to Mr Tamaki and were given a “covenant ring” to wear on their right hands.

Labour's own Hollowmen story

Today we find that Labour has it’s own “Hollowmen” story. Colin Espiner has revealed in the The Press official documents that show Labour and its cabinet in 1989 developed strategies to try and stave of the rout that became the 1990 election.

Why is this pertinent?

Well because two cabinet ministers at the time and indeed the Deputy Prime Minister were Helen Clark and? Michael Cullen.

Is it any wonder that they employ the very same tactics now in their vain attempt to try to stave off defeat.
Labour feared Winston Peters and Ruth Richardson would lead the National Party and tried to destroy the man now helping prop to up the Government, secret papers reveal.

A document headed Interim Report to Cabinet on anti-National Strategy shows the lengths to which the fourth Labour government went to cling to power before its rout at the 1990 election.

According to the confidential document, one of the main aims of its strategy was to “render a Peters-Richardson combination impossible” and to “destroy Peters”.

The paper went through the opposition front bench, targeting MPs and assigning “targets” to Cabinet ministers.
Labour needed this little official document like it needs cancer. It will do nothing to quell the rising tensions coming between Labour and NZ First and indeed now the Greens. If you are in any doubt do some substitution with little bit of the document.
Among the targets was Mr Bolger, who was to be described as “lame duck”, “weak, boring, timid, gutless” and “not up to being PM”.

The strategies included ignoring Mr McKinnon (“Don Who?”), discrediting Miss Richardson (“inconsistent, expedient”) and dismissing Mr Peters as “arrogant, flashy, superficial, lacking in substance”.
Very familiar attacks aren’t they? Worse for Labour though is that unlike the Hager work of fiction these documents are official government documents. I wonder how many more there are of these to come out now Colin Espiner has dropped the first one.
