Amazing…the Herald has managed to find out how to resurrect two dead Beatles

Amazing report from the NZ Herald…apparently two dead Beatles have been resurrected.

Beatles songs were streamed an astonishing 50 million times in the first 48 hours after they became available to listen to live on the internet for the first time.

The hits of the Fab Four, who broke up in 1970, are now being enjoyed by a new young audience, with 65 per cent of the Beatles’ listeners on streaming service Spotify under the age of 34.   Read more »

Knowing that their wedding would cause a huge stir in the press, John Lennon and Yoko Ono decided to use their honeymoon to help champion world peace. On March 25, 1969, five days after their wedding, the duo climbed into the bed of room 902 at the Amsterdam Hilton and called the media. Because of their well known proclivity for appearing in the nude, the press assumed that Ono and Lennon would have sex in front of the cameras. Instead, the two appeared in pyjamas and talked about world peace.

A Good Idea

The Hamilton City Council has decided against torturing its citizens with Barry Manilow:

Ditching “uncool” music in favour of more popular tunes for Hamilton’s Garden Place playlist has helped reduce anti-social behaviour in the city centre.

However, some business owners are not convinced the music has made a difference. In the eight months since a $27,000 sound system was installed last year, the city council has received 14 public complaints about behaviour in the area.

In the eight months before the music began there were 21 complaints.

Garden Place space manager Greg Stack said the latest batch of complaints related mainly to skateboarding and loitering in the doorways of businesses.

The council originally intended to play “uncool” music such as by Barry Manilow or Mozart to drive troublemakers from the area.

But Mr Stack introduced an easy-listening playlist that included everything from top 40 hits to classic rock. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, local artists Kimbra and The Good Fun, and modern acts Aloe Blacc and Foo Fighters all featured on the youth-friendly rotation.

Arts Waikato communications adviser Nick Johnston, who helped Mr Stack compile the playlist, said the objective was to create an inviting environment, rather than driving people away.

Which is all council speak for choosing music friendly bogans like, but that ferals hate.

The missing solo

via Boing Boing

In this video we see Sir George Martin, Giles Martin (his son), and Dhani Harrison listening to the mix of “Here Comes The Sun”.

Suddenly Dhani opens the channel with the “lost solo guitar”. And now, with the master track in the background, you can hear how it sounds in music.

That was George Harrison. A true genius.

It’s my Birthday

Another year, and this one has been great…started off pretty rocky, November and December last year were probably the worst months of my life. However I vowed to make this year better and it has just got better and better. Thank you all my loyal supporters, and especially my friends, but in particular my best friend of 25 years, my Spanish Bride.
