Opposition Leader and Foreign Affairs spokesman not briefed on Israel resolution

After the Christchurch earthquakes, Opposition Leader Phil Goff complained that he hadn’t been briefed about alleged Israeli spies.  It was subsequently revealed on this blog that he had been briefed. What it did show though was that on matters affecting foreign policy especially relating to Israel convention dictates that the leader of the opposition should be briefed. When New Zealand took the lead in sponsoring UN resolution 2334 as the chair of the UN Security Council it should have been incumbent of foreign minister Murray McCully or at the very least a senior MFaT official to brief Labour leader Andrew Little and his foreign affairs spokesperson David Parker.

We put these questions to Andrew Little:

  1. Were you were briefed by anyone, including Murray McCully and/or Bill English and/or John Key?
  2. If you were briefed were you given full details of the process and resolution and did the briefing match what happened in reality?
  3. If you weren’t briefed why do you think they didn’t brief you?
  4. When John Kerry visited in November were you briefed on the contents of discussions with Murray McCully?

Andrew Little’s response is below in full and unedited:

A Black man walks into a bar…

A black person walks into a bar.

The barman kicks him out, shouting “no blacks are allowed in my bar!”

The local community protests outside the bar.

The barman tells them: “I don’t understand what the issue is. It says outside my bar ‘Whites Only’, and this man didn’t abide by the rules!”

If the passage above infuriated you (and I really, really hope that it did), then you might be able to understand, to some extent, why many Israelis are angry at the UN condemnation.

The UN’s ” victory ” has defeated the peace process

As Benjamin Netanyahu said prophetically to Murray McCully in this video the only way to achieve a peaceful outcome is through direct negotiations not by Fiat. Israel used direct negotiations to broker peace with both Jordan and Egypt. This was a huge achievement considering both countries had declared war on Israel and attacked it. Israel won the war and brokered peace so McCully should have listened to Netanyahu because he knows what he is talking about. The UN’s fiat against Israel has made the situation much, much, worse not better as they have claimed.

The resolution “doesn’t bring peace closer. It pushes it further away,”

-Benjamin Netanyahu

As the head of the security council, McCully did not go after Iran for violating all the security council’s resolutions. In fact, the security council under his leadership REMOVED sanctions against Iran despite the fact that Iran presents a serious challenge to peace and security in the Middle East. Iran has a vast terror network over five continents and continues to grow its nuclear stockpile yet McCully and the UN acted against a country that is constantly defending itself against terrorism. A country that Iran wants to use its nuclear weapons against. A country that wants peace with its neighbours, not war. A country that only wants some security as it is surrounded by hostile un-democratic countries.

McCully and the UN may call their actions a ” victory ” but look at what have they actually achieved:

The silence from National is deafening, Bill English is treating his supporters with disdain

While Labour leader Andrew Little and Act leader David Seymour were quick to answer new media queries from Whaleoil, PM Bill English has remained silent and has refused to respond to the issue either via new media or the MSM. As the repercussions of Nationals’s controversial action at the UN swirl, he has ignored Whaleoil’s repeated requests for comment. My last three attempts to reach him are below. Does English really think that closing his eyes and putting his hands over his ears and saying la la la repeatedly will make this issue go away? The Americans are angry, Israel is angry and many of The National party’s voters are angry. He needs to explain Nationals’s actions and he needs to do it quickly before National bleeds any more support.

The domino effect which is crashing down on the UN

U.N. building.

It has been a political cock-up of massive proportions. I am sure Murray McCully and PM Bill English expected this all to happen quietly during the holiday period. They were counting on both the American and the New Zealand media ignoring it. Instead the public have been made aware of their machinations in league with communist Venezuela and backstabber in Chief, Barack Hussein Obama and the reaction has set off a chain of events, (a domino effect ) that they would never have expected to happen in their wildest dreams.

Congress is already setting the stage to cut off U.S. funding to the United Nations in the wake of a contested vote last week in which the Obama administration permitted an anti-Israel resolution to win overwhelming approval, according to congressional leaders, who told the Washington Free Beacon that the current administration is already plotting to take further action against the Jewish state before vacating office.

Cutting off U.S.funding is only one of the many domino counters that are currently crashing their way towards the United Nations.

Most people think the resolution is just about settlements. Well it’s not.

Many NZ politicians and the general public think that resolution 2334 is just about condemning Israeli settlements. However, UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer has written an excellent piece explaining in detail what resolution 2334 is really all about. In it, he sets out why the resolution represents such a departure from the United States’ original position and why it is so bad for Israel and the West. It goes much, much further than a simple condemnation of Israeli settlements and I have a summary of his key points for you below:

Obama is wreaking havoc during his final days as President

Until this month America has always exercised its veto power in order to protect its ally Israel but Obama’s orchestrated move against Israel is only one of a number of highly controversial moves that he is making before Trump takes over on the 20th of January.

Israeli officials fear that the conference’s recommendations may then be approved in another UN Security Council recommendation just before Obama leaves office on January 20.

In a radio interview, Erdan said Kerry’s speech was part of a broader effort to hinder the incoming administration of Donald Trump, who has signalled he will have much warmer relations with Israel.

“This step is a pathetic step. It is an anti-democratic step because it’s clear that the administration and Kerry’s intention is to chain President-elect Trump,” Erdan told Israel Army Radio.

Erdan, a member of Netanyahu’s Likud Party and inner Security Cabinet, said Obama administration officials are “pro-Palestinian” and “don’t understand what’s happening in the Middle East.”

-Stuff

It seems that he is doing as much damage and causing as much trouble as he can before the new administration comes aboard. One of his actions was to undermine Trump’s plans to tighten up on immigration by pushing through a 2014 deportation amnesty. Luckily for Trump, it has been suspended by the court who said it broke administrative law!

The correct comic book hero for the UN campaign doesn’t exist

What a complete joke. The UN have rejected Wonder Woman as the heroine to represent the UN because of her overt sexuality and the American flag on her outfit. This is the same UN who have passed a resolution engineered by an American president that will escalate violence against Israel by the terrorist organisation Hamas, who now believe that they have UN support to slaughter even more Jews.

Wonder Woman’s battle for equality for women and girls at the United Nations has come to a untimely end.The scantily clad, curvaceous comic book superhero has had her appointment as a United Nations honorary ambassador cut, less than two months into her controversial year-long gig, following protests.

A United Nations spokesman said the character’s role at the 193-member state organisation would end on Friday despite plans for Wonder Woman to be used in an empowerment campaign for women and girls into 2017.

Is David Seymour a friend of Israel?

After the National Party shafted Israel at the UN a number of us here on Whaleoil expressed our disgust. Some of us asked what other political parties we could give one or both of our votes to in order to show both our support for Israel and our condemnation of what the National Party has done. I decided to contact the leaders of Act, New Zealand First and the Maori Party as well as the Labour Party. I didn’t bother with the Green Party as their anti-Israel stance was made abundantly clear earlier this year. The Conservative Party currently lacks a leader so I had no one to contact.

The first leader to respond to my request for comment was Labour leader, Andrew Little. The second leader to respond was Act Leader, David Seymour whose response was delayed by poor internet coverage. I am very impressed considering that most politicians are on holiday and unavailable to media yet both leaders took the time out to reply.Until yesterday the New Zealand mainstream media hadn’t even bothered to cover the story.Whaleoil is the only media outlet so far to ask the leaders if they and their parties are friends of Israel.

New Zealand’s UN resolution against Israel is a recipe for legal jihad

Some people think what New Zealand did to Israel is no big deal and is nothing more that a rap over the hand with a wet bus ticket that Israel can choose to ignore. What New Zealand set in motion has opened Israel up to legal jihad with serious consequences for the only true democracy in the Middle East.

…The resolution makes Israeli citizens that are involved in the settlement enterprise in the West Bank vulnerable to lawsuits in courts all over the world.

Jerusalem is also worried that the resolution opens the door for lawsuits against Israeli officials at the ICC: government ministers and senior IDF officers who make decisions about construction in the settlements, the demolition of Palestinian homes, or the expropriation of lands could be accused of war crimes under the Geneva Convention.

The resolution can also lead to the creation of mechanisms to monitor and report Israeli actions, which could lead to sanctions being imposed against it.

The resolution’s wording can also be seen as a victory to the BDS Movement, as it opens the door for boycotts of goods produced in the Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Quite rightly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not letting this attack go unanswered and he is hitting the corrupt and hopelessly compromised, Muslim controlled UN where it hurts. The exact same sweet spot that Trump can also push, thanks to Republican support for cutting UN funding unless the decision is reversed.
