Plant-based meats and cheeses… What sorcery is this?

This month, the world’s first ‘vegan butcher‘ will open its doors in the city of Minnesota, after a successful Kickstarter campaign which raised more than US$64,000.

The Herbivorous Butcher sells a range of plant-based meats and cheeses to vegans who’d like to include meat alternatives in their diet. Read more »

“Vegan” Pie Shock: Z’s Vegan pies contained chicken!

Oh noes! ?Z energy may have inadvertently been providing chicken and vege pies to its strict vegan customers!

Z Energy’s new vegan pie offering has feathers ruffled over one decidedly non-vegan ingredient.

A customer revealed today that the gourmet Mexican pie – with a spicy tomato, sweetcorn and onion filling – contained E920, a pastry conditioner made from ground-up poultry feathers – meaning the prize-winning baked good is definitely not suitable for vegans.

The claim was made on the petrol station’s Facebook page, with Z Energy confirming the ingredient in a follow-up comment.

“We’ve just checked with our pie makers and the E920 that has been used to date has been chemically derived from poultry feathers,” the post read.

“This was an honest mistake which our bakers have fixed.

An honest mistake they say. ?I would have thought that they’d understand the concept of a vegan pie. ? Ground-up chicken feathers don’t really fit that. ? Read more »

So, who’s up for veganuary?

We have Movember, and Dry July and a numerous other month-long campaigns…now there is Veganuary…which sounds positively awful.

Some have resolved to lose weight, others to stay off booze, while for many ?eating more healthily? is a catch-all New Year?s resolution.

But thousands of people have now pledged to go one step further, and abandon all animal food products for at least a month.

At least 20,000 people have put their names to a campaign aimed at encouraging people to go vegan for the month of January.

Veganuary is aimed at persuading people to try to live without meat, fish and other animal based food, such as dairy products, for a substantial period of time.

What is left is a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes, and good quality fats, such as those contained in nuts, seeds, avocados, and olive oil. ?? Read more »

It?s time to fight back. Vegan-friendly Guinness? Are you kidding me?

via Reuters

And Jesus wept…

You might want to toast a vegan next time you lift your arm to down the dark, thick syrupy brew known as Guinness.

Thanks to them, the fish guts are coming out. There will be vegan-friendly versions of the Irish-brewed black beer for the first time in its 256-year history.

After a campaign objecting to the use of isinglass, an extract from fish bladders used as a clarifying agent, the firm will stop using it next year when a new filtration plant is introduced at St James’s Gate, its flagship brewery in Ireland. Read more »

Corbyn’s new vegan shadow minister wants to treat meat eaters like smokers

Jeremy Corbyn is surrounding himself with statist misfits, like his new?shadow secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs who wants to attack meat eaters and has suggested that meat be treated the same as tobacco.

Meat should be treated like tobacco with a public campaign to stop people eating it, Jeremy Corbyn’s new vegan shadow farming minister has suggested.

Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East, has irked the British farming industry with her veganism and vice presidency of the anti-hunting League Against Cruel Sports.

In an interview with Viva!life, a magazine for vegans, she admitted she was a “militant” when it came to clamping down on meat consumption.

She said: “I really believe that meat should be treated in exactly the same way as tobacco, with public campaigns to stop people eating it.

“Progress on animal welfare is being made at EU level… but in the end it comes down to not eating meat or dairy.

“The constant challenging of the environmental impact of livestock farming is making me more and more militant.” ?? Read more »

Vegan bastards are killing screaming plants

Many vegans and vegetarians, apart from being fussy eaters, like to claim they do so because they can’t stand the killing of animals.

But new research shows that plants can ?hear? themselves being eaten – and become defensive when attacked. Those nasty vegan types are?torturing those plants, letting them hear themselves being eaten alive.

Most people don’t give a second thought when tucking into a plate of salad.

But perhaps we should be a bit more considerate when chomping on lettuce, as scientists have found that plants actually respond defensively to the sounds of themselves being eaten.

The researchers at the University of Missouri (MU) found that plants can identify sounds nearby, such as the sound of eating, and then react to the threats in their environment.

‘Previous research has investigated how plants respond to acoustic energy, including music,’ said Heidi Appel, senior research scientist in the Division of Plant Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the Bond Life Sciences Center at MU.

‘However, our work is the first example of how plants respond to an ecologically relevant vibration.

‘We found that “feeding vibrations” signal changes in the plant cells’ metabolism, creating more defensive chemicals that can repel attacks from caterpillars.’ ? Read more »

UN wants us all to turn into vegan hippycrites

I had little respect for the UN to start with, but now any differences we have are irreconcilable

Governments must switch from fossil fuels to nuclear, wind and solar energy to avoid a global warming catastrophe in a move costing about 300 billion ($578 billion) a year, a United Nations report warns today.

The study by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change lays out the pressing need for the world to ditch coal and oil and switch to green energy.

The report is likely to spark a new row over the cost of countering global warming, as climate change sceptics urge governments not to succumb to a green agenda, alleging it would drive up living costs for the rest of the century.

Not just the costs, it is completely batshit insane! ?With the Nuclear option off the table, and with New Zealand’s primary income coming from cows, we might as well lock up and move somewhere else. ? Read more »

Vegans are murderers too

Now this is something to wind up the vegan brigade?.scientists learning that plants may feel pain ?and therefore is it right to eat them? After all they are the ones who are all sanctimonious about this sort of stuff.

Me? Well I’ll just go on killing animals and scoffing them.

Perhaps, we would not be so shocked to hear that plants experience something like pain if we realise that their cells, too, can fire, generating action potentials (APs). Referring to rapid rises and falls in the electrical charge that occur in the membranes of excitable cells such as our neurons, APs have been?recorded regularly in plants?since 1873. It is now obvious that not only?Mimosa?and?Dionaea?but also all plants produce APs, responsible for anything from motoric control of their organs, wound healing, to respiration and photosynthesis.?
